Over the years, both in my work and in life, I’ve learned a few things that I often share with the people I work with. Sometimes, just understanding why we feel a certain way can already bring some relief.Anxiety isn’t just in your head.When you feel anxious, your body is actually reacting as if there’s danger—even if nothing around you is truly threatening. Your heart beats faster, your muscles tense, your thoughts race. That’s your nervous system doing its job. This is why calming the body—not just the mind—is so important.Emotions aren’t bad—they’re messengers.Feelings like sadness, anger, or fear can be uncomfortable, so we try to push them away. But usually, they’re trying to tell us something. When we slow down and listen, we often find clarity—and a little more peace.Your brain can change.One of the most hopeful things I know is that our brains are always capable of change. With practice, new thoughts and responses really do become easier. It’s never “too late” to shift how you feel or how you cope.We heal in connection.As humans, we’re not meant to carry everything alone. Feeling seen, heard, and understood—sometimes even by just one person—can calm the whole nervous system and open the door to healing.
